Can You Put Peel-and-Stick Tile in a Bathroom?

    Floor Area

    • Peel-and-stick tiles can be applied to a bathroom floor as long as you secure them when the floor is completely dry. It's important to ensure all the corners and edges of the tiles are pressed tightly against the floor. Otherwise, water and humidity will cause the tiles to dislodge and shift out of place. You can use floormats and throw carpets on installed peel-and-stick tile to ensure damp feet don't damage the adhesive properties.

    Sink Backsplash

    • Decorate a backsplash behind a bathroom sink with peel-and-stick tiles. Many peel-and-stick tiles have a washable surface that's easily cleaned with gentle household-cleaning products. When peel-and-stick tiles are installed, it's important to ensure there are no gaps between the tiles. These cracks expose the adhesives on the back of the tiles to water and humidity.

    Not in Tubs or Showers

    • It's not advisable to use peel-and-stick tiles on the walls or on the floor in a bathtub or shower. Continual exposure to water and humidity will cause the tiles to peel away from the surface. Forceful water pressure from faucets and shower heads can cause the tiles to lose their adhesive properties.

    Room Ventilation

    • Use peel-and-stick tiles in a bathroom as long as the room is ventilated. Bathroom fans and natural air from windows help remove moisture from a bathroom quickly and effectively. Peel-and-stick tiles require a dry environment that allows the glue-backing to stay firmly pressed against the surface of the floor or walls.
