Broken Sealant Bonds on Shingles
- The sealant will properly seal the shingles on the roof as it is warmed naturally by the sun. If shingles are installed in cold, damp, or windy weather, the sealant will be weakened. Also, not using enough nails or installing nails too high on the shingles can make wind damage more likely.
- Windstorms can damage shingles, and especially improperly installed shingles, flipping them up. Tree branches can also damage shingles.
- Reattach shingles by wiping underneath the shingles and allowing the shingles to dry. Apply a liberal amount of roofing cement beneath the shingle, covering the heads of the nails also. Press the shingle down into the cement so that it can seal.
