    Installing Skateboard Grip Tape

    • 1). Unscrew and remove all hardware from your skateboard. Some hardware might require an Allen wrench, or hex key, to remove, rather than a screwdriver.

    • 2). Remove any old grip tape from the board. Never install new grip tape over old. Run a hair dryer across the surface of the old grip tape, then use the box cutter to peel it back. Slowly lift off the grip tape while applying heat to the area.

    • 3). Apply WD-40 to a rag and wipe down the board to remove any remaining dirt and debris. Use the box cutter to remove any remaining pieces of grip tape. Then let the board dry.

    • 4). Cut a piece of new grip tape, slightly longer than the board.

    • 5). Remove the paper backing from the adhesive side of the grip tape. Position the grip tape so that one end is slightly over the end of your skateboard. Slowly press the grip tape down against the board, starting from one end and working to the other. Run your hand across the grip tape to make sure no air bubbles form under it.

    • 6). Cut excess grip tape off the board with the box cutter. Take your time, working in a circle around the board.

    • 7). Place the screwdriver into the holes in the bottom of the board and press down, poking a hole through the grip tape. It might be easier to press hard enough to make a mark, then flip the board over and press down on the screwdriver where the mark is, to make the hole. Repeat this process for each screw hole.

    • 8). Reattach the hardware to the board.
