    • 1). Wash your bedding once a week. Because dust mites have the ability to cling to your skin these mites are also capable of hopping off of you while you sleep. Over time the amount of dust mites builds on your sheets and blankets. Wash all bedding, blankets, sheets and pillow cases in your washing machine to rid your bed of the dust mites.

    • 2). Vacuum your floor regularly, if you have carpet. Although your best bet to rid the home of dust mites is having a hard wood or tile floor you often don't have a choice. Vacuuming the floor does not remove all dust mites, but it does limit the amount on your carpet.

    • 3). Mop and clean your floors. There isn't much for the dust mites to cling to, so mopping the floors in your kitchen and bathroom will help kill off the dust mites.

    • 4). Toss out old dust magnets such as old books and clothing. You may want to sell the items or donate them to charity. This will help remove the dust mites from your home.

    • 5). Turn on a dehumidifier. Dust mites love the humidity, so reducing it reduces the amount of dust mites in your home.

    • 6). Lower the temperature in your home to lower than 70 degrees. Dust mites thrive in warmer temperatures, so keeping your home cool helps regulate the amount of dust mites in the house.
