The Beautiful Bruce Peninsula

Last summer while my wife and I were looking for a place to honeymoon, we had a severely limited budget, so such places as Hawaii and Jamaica were out of the question.
This is when I discovered the Bruce Peninsula, which is one of Ontario's hidden treasures.
If you are into kayaking, sunbathing, sightseeing, exploring, shipwrecks, and the like, this is the ideal place for you.
The Bruce Peninsula has an inordinate amount of light houses, bed and breakfasts, and trails for you to discover as well.
After searching online for information on where to stay, we finally settled on a bed and breakfast, Irish Mountain.
Here you had a breathtaking view of the entire southern point of the peninsula, along with the mountains as well.
Nestled beneath all this was the quiet town of Meaford, which was known as the apple capital of Canada.
While we were walking through Meaford for the very first time, we noticed that there were a number of scarecrows hanging from buildings, lamp posts, and sitting on benches.
At first we didn't know what to make of this and had no clue what all of this meant, until we discovered that this was known as the scarecrow invasion.
Meaford wanted to set the Guinness book of world records for scarecrows, so they decided to create this celebration for them.
While we were there we also decided to take in some of the local cuisine, which included alligator, believe it or not.
While I didn't try any, the locals told us that it was quite delightful.
My favorite place to eat was called the Leaky Canoe, as they had an array of sandwiches and entrées that we enjoyed so much, that we ended up going back there twice during our stay.
One of the more fascinating things that we did while we were there, was to visit the Bruce caves, which was quite an incredible experience.
It has one of the largest suspension bridges in the province, and while we were walking across it, we took in a breathtaking view of the lake and mountain side.
Seeing the caves as well, was really quite impressive as there was one cave known as nature's refrigerator, where the locals used to store their food hundreds of years ago.
You could really feel the chilling cold coming from this area and it more than lived up to its name.
We didn't get to visit an exotic locale like my wife had originally wanted to, but we really did both have a great time, and we enjoyed it so much, that we returned there this past fall for our first anniversary.
