How to Clean a Reusable Furnace Filter
- 1). Turn off the furnace. Locate the switch on the furnace or turn the thermostat down to a point that the furnace will not run.
- 2). Remove the access cover of the furnace. This may require a screwdriver. Consult the owner's manual for instructions specific to your furnace for removing the access panel.
- 3). Locate the filter. Commonly located near the blower, the reusable furnace filter has a foam or sponge texture. Slide the filter from the furnace.
- 4). Spray the filter with water. Place the filter in a bathtub or large sink or take it outside. Spay water from both sides until the dust caked on the filter is removed. Squeeze the filter to remove the excess water.
- 5). Allow the filter to dry before returning it to the furnace. Close the furnace access panel before operating the furnace.
