How to Knit Dinosaurs
- 1). Make a gauge to test out tension. Knit 28 rows of 20 stocking stitches to make a four-inch square.
- 2). Start with the head by casting on four stitches and working in two rows of stocking stitches. For the third, fifth and seventh rows, knit one and make one on each stitch. Alternate with a purling row.
- 3). Starting on row eight, make three more stocking knit rows. Knit one and then knit two together through the back loop for a total of four times. Knit one more and then knit two together and knit one until the end. Purl the next row. Knit one and then knit two together through the back loop for a total of two times.
- 4). Knit five and then knit two together and knit one until the end. Work in three more rows.
- 5). Knit three, knit two together through the back loop, knit three, knit two together and knit three. Work in three more rows.
- 6). Knit five, knit two together and knit four. Work in three more rows to complete the head of your dinosaur.
- 7). Start the body of your dinosaur by casting on 10 stitches and working in two rows of stocking stitches. Knit one and make one in each stitch until the end. Purl the next row.
- 8). Knit two and make one for four times, knit three and then make one and knit two until the end. Purl the next row. Knit three and make one until the last three stitches, and knit three. Purl the next row. Knit four and make one for four times, knit three, and then make one and knit four until the end.
- 9). Purl the next row. Work in 20 rows of stocking stitches. Knit three and knit two together through the back loop for four times, knit three, and then knit two together and knit three until the end. Work in three rows.

Knit two, knit two together through the back loop for four times, knit three and then knit two together and knit two until the end. Work in three rows. - 11
Knit one, knit two together through the back loop for four times, knit three and then knit two together and knit one until the end. Work in three rows. - 12
Knit two, knit two together through the back loop, knit until the last four stitches, knit two together and knit two. Work in three more rows. Repeat the same steps as the last four rows for five more times to make the tail. - 13
Knit two, stitch one, knit two together, pass the slip stitch over, knit two and make five stitches. Work in three rows. Knit one, stitch one, knit two together, pass the slip stitch over, knit two and make three stitches. Purl the next row. Break off the yarn about six inches away from the needle and bring the use strand through the last three stitches to finish off the tail of the dinosaur. - 14
Make four legs. Cast on four stitches and work in six rows of garter stitches. Cast on 10 more stitches and knit the whole row for a total of 14 stitches. Starting with a purl row, do 13 more rows of stocking stitches. Bind off and leave a long thread to use when closing up the legs after adding the stuffing material in. - 15
Knit the spiky back. Cast on two stitches and knit two rows. Yarn forward and knit two stitches, turn, knit for three stitches and turn. Repeat by adding a knit after each yarn forward until you reach a total of five stitches, and then decrease by knitting two together until your return to a row of two stitches. Repeat the whole step, after the casting directions, seven more times to make a total of eight spines and then bind off. - 16
Stuff the legs and the dinosaur body. Sew each piece shut after it is full of stuffing. Attach the legs to the bottom of the body and the spiky back to the top of the body. Use a backstitch to sew the pieces together. - 17
Use black embroidery thread to sew on eyes and a smile.
