How to Unhide a File Type on the Desktop in Vista

    • 1). Click "Start" and then click "Control Panel."

    • 2). Click "Appearance and Personalization" and then click "Folder Options."

    • 3). Select "View" and then click to uncheck the box to the left of "Hide extensions for known file types" beneath "Advanced Settings."

    • 4). Click "Apply" and then click "OK." File extensions will now be displayed after the names of files on your Windows Vista computer.
