How to Repair a Marble Counter
- 1). Remove all items from the counter and store them in a safe place.
- 2). Squirt some marble cleaner onto a soft dry cloth to clean the counter thoroughly. Make sure to remove dirt, stains, grease or other debris. Rinse the cleaner from the counter and dry it with a soft towel. Avoid leaving lint on the marble counter.
- 3). Start applying the marble glaze on the surface of the counter. Apply the glaze to scrapes and scratches using a putty knife. With another lint-free soft cloth, wipe off any excess glaze.
- 4). Let the counter dry completely. Polish the marble using a towel and small amount of marble cleaner.
- 5). Sand the entire counter with the sander and 1,000-grit sandpaper until you have removed all scratches. If your marble counter is cultured, do not sand deeper than the top coating. This will damage the counter. You can sand further to repair deep cuts in solid marble tops.
- 6). Rinse away dust. Use soap and water to clean the counter, rinse and dry it with a towel.
- 7). Shine the marble by buffing it with a dry cloth. Add glaze to the cloth and continue buffing the marble counter until it is nice and shiny.
