Top 3 Contemporary Furniture Designs
Contemporary furniture is a great area of design that enables homes and offices alike to incorporate something that is modern and sleek. It allows you to select from comfortable and functional pieces of furniture that make a bold statement. In terms of seating there are many pieces of contemporary furniture that stand out among the rest. These include the designs by greats such as Arne Jacobsen and Ludwig Mies van der Rohe as well as Eero Aarnia.
Ludwig Mies van der Rohe
There are many great designs available in the contemporary furniture market. One such design is that of Ludwig Mies van der Rohe. This German architect is well known for his design of the Mies van der rohe chairs. These chairs are a stunning example of contemporary style one which was influenced by the times in which he lived. As he worked around World War contemporaries he sought a modern style and modern materials to cultivate this style such as steel. It was this man who showed a passion for simplicity and clarity.
Arne Jacobsen Egg Chairs
Another contemporary furniture creator was Arne Jacobsen who produces the popular egg chair inspired from the Eero Saarinen womb chair. Though making the egg-couch still remains a challenging work, part of the limited production of the egg-couch was also due to the desire to remain exclusive. The egg chair was the easiest to produce, as it was small enough to be covered by two entire cow-hides (unlike the couch). In this case, the couch version would show a visible stitching in the middle, which was far from Jacobsen's spirit. The Egg chair, because of its high quality and unique design, had become so popular that it was integrated by the McDonalds Corporation in a London-based restaurant, as a part of the redesigning concept the company employed. Another one of the McDonalds' locations had also included one of the Egg chairs: Copenhagen.
Eero Aarnio Ball Chairs
Another great name among contemporary furniture design is that of Eero Aarnia. Eero Aarnia was renowned for innovation in terms of modern classic chairs. He was born in 1932 of Finnish descent, and since then has become most popular for his fiberglass chairs, and his plastic chairs. He studied in Helsinki at the Institute of Industrial Arts, and his personal office was initiated in the year 1962. One of the first innovations which were introduced by his office was the Ball Chair. It was introduced in 1963, and it offered users a follow sphere design which is held in place through a stand. It only opens on one side, so the user can sit, on the inside of the sphere. Yet another Aarnia innovation, called the Bubble Chair was similar, yet had a few distinguishes. The chair was clear instead of colorful, and rather than positioning from the ground, it was suspended from above through a stand. Overall these artists have given us great pieces to incorporate into any contemporary office or home furniture set.
