10 ways to save on a holiday in Thailand
A lot of us spend a lot of money on our well deserved holidays each year, some of us just scrape the money together and have a tight budget.
Below are the 10 things you can do to try to get more for your Baht.
1. Come in low season
Low season in Thailand is around May to October, you can have just as much fun in low season and everything is cheaper, from hotels to tours. The only thing is that it
can rain in parts of Thailand. But generally it will only rain for a hour or so during the day.
2. Look for specials and deals
Always a special or promotion around. If you like going to bars, there is plenty of places which offer good deals on drinks and food. Also when you are shopping for
clothes and present, remember to barter for the goods, you will be amazed on how much you can save.
3. Try booking flights early
It is usually cheaper in my experience to book a flight a few months in advance then trying to book a week before the holiday.
4. Exchanging currency
Do not exchange at the airports, if you really have to, just change a little money for a taxi and wait until you can exchange it at a bank or super rich if you are in
Bangkok
5. Buy a simcard in Thailand
I have heard stories of phone bills racking up to large amounts as roaming can be quite expensive, also some companies have a very high rate for 3G roaming
internationally.
Buy a simcard in Thailand and you could save a lot of money and not get a surprise bill when you get back home after your holiday.
6. Try listing what you want to buy in Thailand and writing down the cost
As some find out later, that the items they may have thought was cheap in Thailand, was actually more expensive then back home. Especially with electronics.
7. Social Media
You will be surprised on how many companies offer discounts and special promotions to facebook, twitter etc users. Plus these deals are coming to you in your feed if
you join the pages/groups. You may find a great deal that just suits your trip
8. Buy some snacks and drinks at the supermarket
If you don't want to spend too much on food and want to spend more of it on tours etc, try going to the local supermarket and get drinks or even simple breakfasts,
could be a good money saver.
9. Rent a house or apartment
Look for people renting out holiday homes or look at the local real estate websites. Some apartments have weekly rates, you could save a lot of money on accommodation
this way.
10. Try the local cuisine
Usually people love Thai food anyway, so there is a lot of variety of Thai food for all tastes. Try avoiding international cuisines as they cost a lot more than local
dishes. Also Thai food in Thailand is usually much better than home and international food is usually not as good as back home. So try the local fresh food and save.
