Vaginal candida has been a common concern for women in the US.
It's commonly referred to as a yeast infection and is treated easily.
Researchers find that about 75% of females have experienced the infection during their lifetime.
Candida is found inside the vagina but can also appear in other locations.
If the female system becomes out of balance the overgrowth of yeast can result.
The condition manifests with itching and a gelatinous white discharge.
Other symptoms include discomfort during sexual intercourse which can alert a woman of the problem.
Pain when urinating is also common and can often be mistook for a bladder infection.
Tissues on the surface of the skin around the vagina will can also appear red and often swollen.
If a woman knows the combination of physical signs she will get treatment more quickly and avoid prolonged pain.
Candida infections of the vagina are typically uneventful, but if the infections continue this might be a sign that other issues are present.
If a fever occurs during an infection the follow symptoms might indicate an emergency.
First, the fever is concerning when it rises above 101 degrees and is accompanied by nausea, vomiting and many times pain of the abdomen.
Consider these signs an emergency situation and be seen by a doctor.
During the normal course of life, think about what causes the female Candida infections.
Take comfort in knowing they are not considered an STD.
However, the infection can be passed from on partner to the next.
This could be a problem when there are multiple partners.
If a woman is having any relationship, her partner needs to be careful and use condoms until the vagina is clear.
The infection can be passed back and forth between the two and the cure that is typically easy becomes trying.
The vaginal candida is simply an overgrowth of yeast often beginning in the colon, gut, vagina or mouth which causes an out of balance condition in the body with the "good" bacteria losing the count.
Consider how the out of balance condition can be promoted in the body by external and internal factors.
Over use of antibiotics and birth control pills, antacids, alcohol, elevated cortisol resulting from excessive stress, too much chlorine ingested in tap water, excessive colonic, a hypothyroid condition and constipation can all contribute to the overgrowth condition.
The occasional infection is easily treated with a anti-fungal vaginal cream that is sold over the counter today.
The only way to know it is Candida requires a visit to the doctor's office to have a wet mount performed.
The vaginal swipe is cultured and examined under a microscope to verify the type of infection.
Vaginal candida is not considered serious.
The out of balance condition caused by a yeast overgrowth does not often pose a problem.
If the infections become common place there is nothing normal about repeating an infection again and again.
The infection can be treated by a doctor or by over the counter anti-fungal vaginal creams.
In addition, a woman can be aware of many things that contribute to becoming susceptible to the overgrowth of yeast.
This knowledge can help her prevent reoccurring episodes.
