104 10

    Setting Up the Website

    • 1). Open Adobe Dreamweaver CS4.

    • 2). Click "Site" in the menu bar at the top of the screen. When the drop down menu appears click on "New Site..."

    • 3). Enter the website's name in the dialog box that appears where it says "Unnamed Site 2"; this can be anything at all. After entering the website name, type in the web address of the website in the text field below the previous one. Click "Next" after completing the information in the two text fields.

    • 4). Accept the default "No, I do not want to use a server technology" when the next dialog screen appears. Click "Next" when complete.

    • 5). Choose where on the computer to save the website files to. By default, Dreamweaver creates a folder with the name of the website as its title. If unsure what to do just leave the default file path and click "Next".

    • 6). Click on the drop down menu on the following screen after the question "How do you connect to your remote server?" and click on "None". This can be changed later during the publication of the website. Click "Next".

    • 7). Read the "Site Definition Summary" to ensure the information is correct, then click "Done."

    • 8). Click on "File" in the top menu bar, then click on "New" in the drop down menu that appears. This will open a window with the title "New Document."

    • 9). Place the desired content into the webpage. Be sure to save regularly by clicking on "File", then "Save" in the drop down menu. Now that the first page is created it can be published.

    Publishing the Website

    • 1). Open the Site Manager by clicking "Sites" in the top menu, then "Manage Sites..." in the drop down menu.

    • 2). Click "Next" after the screen pops up until coming to the page that asks "How do you connect to your remote server?", then click on the drop down menu and select "FTP." Several new text boxes will appear.

    • 3). Enter the information provided by the website host; it should have been sent in an email after signup. For instance, it may look similar to "ftp.example.com" with a user name and password. Once the information is entered into the appropriate text fields, click "Test Connection."

    • 4). Click "Next" once the connection succeeds until coming to the "Summary" page, then click "Done" and the "Manage Sites..." window will close. The website is now setup.

    • 5). Publish the site by pressing "Sites" on the top menu bar, then click "Put" and the website will be uploaded to the website server.
