Ex-nay on the Raid: Why you don't want to use Raid for your small drive Arrays

101 31
There is too much risk that something will fail if you have a small four-driver array while using Raid 5. Why could this be a problem? The Raid 5 is designed to protect against single disk failure. The SATA specs are designed so that there is one unrecoverable read error for every 12.5 terabytes. Running a Raid array with four small drives can signal a problem if one of the drivers that reads a 2TB disk fails. Down a driver, your Raid system still has the three drivers, but you also lose 6 TBs.

Some Raid 5 users may not realize that there is a 40 percent chance that their data will fail and is compromised. With only 6 TB of disks, there is a 40 percent chance that Raid 5 users are opening themselves up to a total Raid system failure. An unreadable error could happen again. It also means that Raid cannot be rebuilt because a Raid controller does not have enough information to be able to rebuild your Raid system without errors. A professional that specializes in Raid data recovery and hard disk recovery may be able to assist with a Raid rebuild. It makes sense for Raid system owners to have backups of their systems, so that Raid can easily be rebuilt.

Don't store all data in one Place

Are Raid 5 systems offering users a lesson of how not to store sensitive data in one place? For instance, external hard drives are also a good place to back up data and store data. However, computer users shouldn't depend solely on an external hard drive to protect confidently their most sensitive data. External hard drives have their failures. It is better to have a new alternative storage method in place, so external hard drive data recovery isn't needed and companies do not have to sacrifice valuable downtime because of missing data.

Smaller companies may not have the budget for external hard drive data recovery and may be forced to go over budget without a data disaster relief plan in place. It is reassuring knowing that the company's most sensitive data isn't erased? Since Raid 5 may not have the best reputation for protecting data, what Raid system do you think is far superior to the Raid data recovery system?

These may be questions to ask qualified data recovery specialists who are specially trained and have worked with Raid 5 Recovery systems. At Advanced Data Recovery London, we can help you in case your Raid system fails, or your desktop computer or laptop suffers logical data errors.
