How to Write Crime Reports
- 1). Cite the time and location of the crime. Talk about the type of offense, such as a theft, open-garage burglaries or bicycle theft that occurred. If the incident occurred at a specific location, include the address of the place. In addition, the email address of the victim is required.
- 2). Mention the victim. If the victim is a person, list his full name, address, phone number, age, date of birth, gender, race and employer. If the victim is a business, list the company’s name, address, telephone number and if the business is the victim of the crime.
- 3). Talk about the suspect, if you are not the victim. Provide information, such as the suspect’s gender, race, ethnicity, age and a detailed description of the suspect. Describe the suspect's height, weight, hair color and style, clothing and any tattoos.
- 4). Provide a description of the crime. Explain what happened and the time it happened. In this section, you can talk about the lost, stolen or damaged property, if necessary. Describe the item that was lost and include the estimated dollar amount and how it was stolen.
- 5). Bring up the involvement of a vehicle. If a car was used or stolen, give the model, license plate number and the color of the car. If it was your car, provide the year and VIN number.
