Guide Review - AC/DC - 'Black Ice'

For almost thirty years AC/DC has been the soundtrack of multiple generations. Everyone from teenagers to those in their fifties are familiar with their catalog of hits like "You Shook Me All Night Long," "Back In Black" and "Highway To Hell." The Australians have been quiet on the album front since 2000, but are back with Black Ice.

There are absolutely no surprises on Black Ice, and that's fine. AC/DC has perfected their formula over the years, and there's no reason to mess with success. The CD is packed with mid tempo songs that are simple, but extremely catchy. Angus and Malcom Young's guitar work is excellent, with tasty riffs and some blistering solos.

There are a few standout tracks on Black Ice, especially the opening track and first single "Rock 'N Roll Train." Rock is a reoccuring theme on this CD, as four songs have either "rock" or "rocking" in the title. Other top tier songs include "Stormy May Day," "She Likes Rock 'N Roll" and the title track.

Brendan O'Brien is known for his radio friendly production, and the sound on Black Ice is spacious and clean.

A few more rough edges might have been appropriate, but Brian Johnson's vocals sound really good in the mix. AC/DC's music is timeless, and Black Ice adds another compelling page to their legendary catalog.
