Things to Do on a Sunday Morning in Houston
- Bright Sunday mornings in Houston are characterized by energetic bike riders. There are various places where you can go biking with about a dozen friendly people. You and your family or friends on bikes can go to the Hickory Hollow (101 Heights Boulevard) and ride all over the Heights area. The bikers start around 9:00 a.m. (though it is best to be there 15 minutes early) and keep going till around noon.
- There are plenty of running and jogging clubs. Most of these are local, and thus it is easy to find one to join. The Bayou City Road Runners meet every Sunday morning at Memorial Park at 6:30 as well as Wednesday evenings at 5:45 p.m. at Rice University. The Sunday morning run is typically from 10 to 12 miles long. Here runners can chat with fellow runners or turn on their MP3 players for some motivational music.
- The Central Market, a Houston landmark at 3815 Westheimer Road, is a 75,000-square-foot amusement park of food and a great place to be on a Sunday morning. Sunday morning is brought to life with the wide array of fresh mango, ancho, tomatillo or chipotle to choose from. - The Houston Zoo opens at 9 a.m. on Sundays and offers an entertaining and educational experience for kids and adults. It is located in Hermann Park adjacent to the Texas Medical Center and the museum district. The zoo has a wide array of animal species including elephants, chimpanzees, reptiles, fish and birds. Children under 2 get in free, and for children from 2 through 11 the fee is $8.00. Visitors older than 12 pay $12.00, but seniors 65 and over can get in for $6.50.
