UFC 182: Jones vs. Cormier Results

UFC 182: Jones vs. Cormier went down on January 3, 2015 from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada .  The main event was a very highly anticipated bout between UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones and challenger Daniel Cormier.  Why was the bout hyped?  Well, beyond the fact that both were considered outstanding fighters, there was a lot of pre-fight shenanigans, which included a brawl on media day and some pretty choice words for one another during an off camera exchange (which you can see later in this article via www.mixedmartialarts.com).

But Jones and Cormier weren't the only fight worth watching on this card, as it also included Dominick Cruz's return to the Octagon after multiple surgeries, as well as a fight between Yoel Romero and Tim Kennedy.

So follow the links below for more.  And to whet your whistle on some of the pre-fight jazz, check out the following off air exchange between Jones and Cormier below:

Jones: Hey p---y, are you still there?
Cormier: I'm here. You are just the fakest person! I actually admire that you can be this fake and when the TV comes on you can just change. You're like a chameleon. It's awesome. It's unbelievable.

Jones: Hey, I'm a professional. The fact that you're a p--y hasn't changed.
Cormier: It's unbelievable just how fake you can be! You're such a f-----g p---y! My god! It is amazing! But hats off to you, you got a great PR person. They do a great job training you, because you are just terrible. You're the f-----g scum of the earth. You're a terrible human being, but you can sure turn it on.

Jones: Thank you.
Cormier: I wish they would let me next door so I could spit in your f------g face.

Jones: You know I would absolutely kill you if you ever did something like that.
Cormier: You could never kill me.

Jones: Oh, I bet you I could.
Cormier: Then you should try, Jon. You really should try.

Jones: I would literally kill you if you spit in my face. Literally kill you. I'm not saying I would fight you, I'm saying I would kill you if you did some stupid s--t like that.
Cormier: Jon, do you think I'm just gonna sit there and let you kill me? I mean, really?

Jon Jones vs. Daniel Cormier Results

Jon Jones, with the exception of one fight- which he won against Alexander Gustafsson- has simply been as dominant a light heavyweight champion as there has ever been in the sport. No one, sans the aforementioned, had ever even really come close.  Enter Daniel Cormier, an Olympic wrestler with the pedigree and credentials to push Jones like no other ever had.  Wondering how this highly- HIGHLY- anticipated fight went down?

Keep reading in order to find out.

Early on, Jones landed a body kick, and then nearly hit home with an axe kick.  Solid knee to the body by Jones, as he’s being careful to keep Cormier off of him.  Then Jones caught a kick from Cormier and took him down with a trip (just after landing an elbow).  Cormier got up quickly.  The two separated, and Jones connected with that side kick to the thigh he likes.  Then the champ came inside and tried another takedown to no avail.  Cormier landed two uppercuts inside.  Nice left by Jones.  Grazing right from Cormier.  Then came a big time straight left by Jones that hit home.  Some solid fighting inside by both guys.  Jones is landing kicks from a distance.  Really nice knee by Jones.  Cormier hit home with a couple of jabs.  Solid body kick from Jones.  Then came a hard left to the body from the champ.  Cormier connected with multiple leg kicks in a row.  But Jones is hitting home nicely from a distance- that reach advantage of his is obvious.  Nice left to the body by Jones.

  Nice punches by Cormier.

In the end, the round was the champ’s, as he landed most of the significant strikes, and far more strikes than his adversary.  That said, Cormier came on toward the end.

Round two was a very good one and a different story.  Cormier hit home with a lot of uppercuts inside.  Jones continued to connect with strikes from a distance (but less so), and elbows inside.  But the challenger connected more, and there was an increase in fighting from the inside.  I’d give the second stanza to Cormier.  But it was close.

Round three was another close one.  But this time it seemed that Cormier slowed down some, and Jones was able to land kicks from a distance and elbows inside with more frequency.  So far each round has been exciting.  This one is coming through for fans.

Jones is winning 2-1.

Jones started round four off strong, connecting on multiple occasions on his adversary, and then pulling off two dominant takedowns.  The first, Cormier got up quickly from.  The second nearly resulted in a choke attempt.  But the former heavyweight eventually did get up, getting hit in the process.  It’s seeming as if Cormier is tired right now, with his back to the cage wall.  For a while, the champ beat the challenger up there.  Then the two came off the wall and separated with less than two minutes to go.  For the rest of the round, whether in the clinch or apart, Jones generally controlled things (throwing the challenger to the ground right at the bell).

Cormier, in my opinion, needs a round five stoppage in order to win.

The final stanza saw Cormier looking for a takedown to no avail until late.  Jones got right back up when the former Olympian did finally get his long awaited takedown (an impressive one at that).  Generally, Jones hit home with more strikes and certainly the harder ones during the stanza.  I believe he won the final round as well, but regardless Jones certainly won the fight.

Jon Jones defeats Daniel Cormier by unanimous decision.

Jones is the best.  And that was a great fight- Cormier has nothing to be ashamed of.  It was one we'll all remember for a long time.

Donald Cerrone vs. Myles Jury Results

Coming into their fight, Myles Jury was considered a valid, up and coming MMA prospect.  On the flip side, Donald Cerrone was that veteran fighter who has all the skills but had never quite gotten a belt.  Wondering how it all went down?

Keep reading to find out.

Early in round one, Jury took Cerrone down.  ‘Cowboy’ went immediately for the omoplata, attempting to turn things over.  He eventually succeeded, leading to Cerrone ending up with side control.

From there, the former WEC competitor took Jury’s back and started looking for the rear naked choke.  This was to no avail with very little action for most of the stanza.  However, Cerrone nearly ended things with the rear naked choke with less than a minute to go.

In the end, Jury survived the stanza, but clearly lost it.

Round two saw Jury connect with an early low kick and then fail on a takedown attempt.  And the story on a rather uneventful second round was something like this- Cerrone connected with hard, yet sporadic low kicks.  Jury hit home with rare body kicks.

Jury needs a stoppage in order to win in the final round.

The final round saw Jury miss on multiple takedowns.  Cerrone connected with a big time head kick, and generally controlled the action again.  Heck, Cowboy even nabbed a takedown himself.  Clear winner here.  Jury nabbed an early takedown and then seemed over his head for the rest of the fight.

Donald Cerrone defeats Myles Jury by unanimous decision.

Hector Lombard is a former Olympic judo competitor with tons of athleticism.  Josh Burkman is a former WSOF champion coming back to the UFC.  Did Burkman make the splash of his life?

Keep reading to find out.

Early on, Burkman circled and Lombard took the center of the Octagon, moving forward.  Burkman landed a solid right hand, then a side kick to the body.  Then he connected with a low kick.  The two traded grazing punches.

Burkman hit home with a jab.  Lombard caught Burkman’s kick, briefly took him down and then was hit by his opponent on the way up.  Right now the underdog is winning these exchanges.

Lombard hit home with two pretty hard low kicks that seemed to bother Burkman soon after.  His opponent connected with one as well.  Lombard then landed a mild two punch combination.

He seems somewhat confused by Burkman’s style.

Mild low kick by the former Bellator champ.  The rest of the round saw Lombard move forward, landing mild shots every now and then or connect hard against Burkman’s blocks, for the most part.

Hard round to score.  I think the most significant strikes were landed by Burkman early on, but he didn’t do much of anything for the whole second half of the round and Lombard kept moving forward.

The second round saw both fighters throw down aggressively.  Burkman connected more than Lombard, but it’s becoming pretty clear that the Cuban is just too strong for his adversary.  Further, Burkman is looking somewhat beat up (his nose is bleeding) and fatigued, possibly because of Lombard’s strength advantage.

Lombard began stalking him, landing left hands that hurt in spots, as Burkman’s hands were down.  Then came a hard jab.  Nice right hand by Burkman .  But then Lombard once again connected with a hard combination.

This is a surprisingly slow fight.  Less punches than what would’ve been expected, though many that are landing are hard.  That said, Lombard is clearly winning this stanza.

Nice low kicks by Lombard to end the round, along with a couple of grazing punches.  This one is either all tied up, or Lombard is winning 2-0.

Lombard gained an early takedown in the third round.  While in his opponent’s half guard, he landed some ground and pound, while attempting to move to a better position.  At around the 3:30 mark, he gained the half guard position.  Then Burkman got to his feet.  Nice low kick by Lombard, which soon after was followed by some big punches, including a left hand that hurt his adversary.  That said, Burkman toughed it out.  The two swung big time at one another, mostly missing, several moments later.  Nice left hand by Lombard. Burkman is fighting back but getting beat up.  Burkman attempted a flurry at the end that missed in every way, and Lombard landed a hard left to end the fight.

No doubt that Lombard wins this one.  Burkman is tough but wasn’t strong enough to deal with the former judo player.

Hector Lombard defeats Josh Burkman by unanimous decision.
