How to Use WordPress As DVD Catalog
- 1). Log in to your WordPress admin area. Click "Posts" > "Categories." The categories will be used to sort through your DVD catalog. You can organize your collection however you want, and you can also use a hierarchical system. For example, "Genre" could be a parent category, with "Action," "Romance," Sci-Fi," "Period" and so on as its child categories. "Actors/Actresses" could be another parent category, with "Angelina Jolie," "Brad Pitt," etc., as child categories for this.
- 2). Click "Posts" from the left menu, and then click "Add New." Enter the title of the DVD in the "Enter title here" text field, and any other information you want to include about it in the main text area beneath it, such as the year, cast and synopsis. If the movie's trailer is available on YouTube, you can click paste the video's URL inside embed tags, for example:
[embed]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=[/embed].
Then, the trailer will appear in the post at the location you specified. - 3). Add an image of the DVD cover -- if you have one. Click the icon just to the right of the "Upload/Insert" header, click "Select Files," and then locate the file on your hard drive. When it has loaded, you can give it a title and caption in the text fields that appear. Click "Save Changes" when you're finished.
- 4). Categorize the DVD by clicking the relevant check boxes to the right of the screen. Choose as many categories as needed, and press "Add New Category" if you need to add a new category for the DVD.
- 5). Click "Publish" when you have added all the information you want about the post. Repeat the previous three steps for all the DVDs in your catalog. When you are finished, visit your blog and click the category you are interested in from the sidebar. All the DVDs in that category will be displayed.
