The Basics of Blogging
Yesterday I received an e-mail from someone who had been doing some work for us posting ads.
I had suggested to them that they consider starting their own blog to start supplementing their income beyond the work that I was providing as it could easily replace what they were making from me within a very short period of time.
They had some basic questions about blogging that I figured I should cover here for all our readers as I am sure there are others that have similar questions.
First, a blog is nothing more than a very easy way for you to have a website.
Some people think of it as an on-line journal where you can write about a topic, any number of topics, your experiences or all of the above.
There are some blogs that discuss lots of different things.
There are some blogs that have very focused topics and do not deviate.
What you decide to write about is completely up to you, but I would strongly encourage you to write about something that you are passionate about as I feel it will be more interesting to others if you are passionate about it.
So, you should go out and register to get a blog.
I recommend blogger.
com or wordpress.
com if you have not ever blogged before as they are both free and very nice tools for blogging.
If you are going to try to make money with your blog, I would suggest Blogger.
com as it integrates very easily with Google AdSense, especially since Google purchased blogger.
com.
Once you set up your blog, the next thing you will want to do is write a post or two.
The two blogging platforms that I suggested have pretty easy interfaces to use to blog and some great help pages and communities that will assist you.
Start out simple if you want and write something short.
You can always edit or delete it later.
After you have had a chance to post up a few blog posts, I think it is time to add some advertising to your site to make some money with your blog.
It is really easy to do with blogger.
You just sign up for a Google AdSense account and then follow the prompts to add AdSense to your blog.
In a couple of hours, the ads will be live on your site and whenever visitors click on the ads you can get paid.
As an important aside, do NOT click on your own ads; that's very bad and could get you banned from AdSense.
Now that you have a blog with some content you wrote and some ads, you can start to do the most important part: market your blog to get traffic to it.
While there are some great resources for how to get traffic to your blog, here are a couple very brief ideas: 1.
Place up ads for a product or service you offer on CraigsList in the appropriate category on there and link back to your blog with additional information.

Become active on discussion boards and post comments on other people's blogs and include a link to your blog on your posts and comments.
3.
Write more content.
Search engines love content and, over time, can bring visitors to your site as you add more and more useful content.
