The 1099-G form is a form that provides the revenue department in your state information regarding your income during a given period. This form is applicable to you, even if you have been unemployed during the given year that the revenue department is seeking income figures. Due to the frequent use of the 1099-G form, there are often questions that people ask to understand this particular form and its purpose. - The 1099-G is a form issued by the department of revenue from your given state. The form is meant to inform the revenue department of any income or payments you may have received during a given period, so the revenue department can consider whether or not they are taxable for the recipient. If you have a tax refund or have overpaid any taxes throughout the given period, the department of revenue must issue the amount to the tax payers, according to the Missouri Department of Revenue.
- According to the Missouri Department of Revenue, the 1099-G form should not be seen as a bill in terms of outstanding payments. The form informs you of what you will receive in the mail because you have overpaid, or what you owe in taxes if you have not paid enough. Hand the form to your accountant if you receive one, or read through the instructions for reporting state income tax refunds, if you do your own taxes.
- If there are mistakes on your 1099-G form, contact your state's department of revenue and inform them of the mistake. When you contact the department of revenue, ensure that you have your social security number and personal information ready so the clerk can help you. Direct the clerk's attention to the misinformation on the form so it can be corrected.
- If you have not received a 1099-G form in the mail around tax time, you should contact your state's department of revenue and speak with a representative. While it could be a mistake, there could also be a problem with your income tax statements.
