How to Troubleshoot a GeForce 8500 Installation
- 1). Turn off the computer and open the case to check the physical installation of the graphics card. Remove the case cover by unscrewing the screws securing the cover in place. Slide the cover back from the front of the case and lift it free. Locate the GeForce 8500 card in the rear of the motherboard and press firmly on the card top to ensure that it's seated correctly into the motherboard expansion slot. Make sure to connect the monitor cable securely at both ends.
- 2). Check that the SLI bridge chip is firmly connected to the SLI ports on the top of the GeForce card if installed as a pair for SLI use. Close the case and reboot the computer.
- 3). Connect with the NVIDIA website and download the latest drivers for the GeForce 8500 graphics card from the support section of the website. Install the driver software in order to ensure you have the latest version available. Reboot the system.
- 4). Right-click on the desktop and select "NIVIDIA Control Panel" from the pop-up menu. Under display, select "Change resolution." Select the resolution marked as "Native" for your display and then press "Apply" to change to the selected resolution. If you're using multiple cards to create an SLI system setup, then under the 3D Settings menu, select "Set SLI Configuration." Click the button next to "Enable SLI Technology" followed by the "Apply" button to allow your system to use the dual graphics cards.
- 5). Close the NVIDIA Control Panel and use the card as per normal. If you still encounter visual glitches or slowness in media playback or game operation then contact your graphics card manufacturer, as the issue may be hardware-related and might require manufacturer repair.
