Driving Traffic Is a Critical Activity When Starting an Internet Business
I know that there are other things that need to happen - your website, content, products etc, but if you are not driving traffic then it is like having the best restaurant in town, serving the most amazing food, but nobody knows anything about it! Driving traffic is the equivalent in the online world to prospecting in traditional, offline business.
In the offline world, we would advocate doing something every day about prospecting and the same is true about driving traffic in your online business - you must do something every day to drive more traffic! Here are some basic things to do to increase your traffic:
- Get your site listed with a number of the link directories.
The links that you get from these directories are really good.
Remember, that sites on these directories are already approved, so that it is an indicator that the links are of a high quality. - Write articles.
Producing good quality articles is still an excellent way of driving traffic.
You submit your article to places like EzineArticles and others and you will be distributed to a wide audience and can easily be found.
You also get quality links doing this. - Write on other blogs.
Follow top bloggers in your field, engage with comments - I don't mean pointless comment just to get seen, make your comments worthwhile and relevant, and then seek opportunities to become a guest blogger.
Don't forget that bloggers are always seeking great content, so if you produce good quality stuff, then you will be of interest to them. - Be active on social network sites.
This is frequently overlooked and can be viewed as low impact.
I don't agree.
The reason is that on social network sites it is relatively straightforward to place yourself in front of people that have an interest in your topic or niche.
So, why miss out on this opportunity?
You must make it an integral part of your daily routine.
I can tell you that the easiest time to forget about this daily routine is when business is flowing! Why? Because you think you have cracked it and it is all gravy from here on in! But that is the danger moment - stop this routine of daily activity to drive traffic, and suddenly your sales funnel dries up because you have turned off the tap of new traffic, which is your lifeblood! So what are you to do? Select the activities that you are committed to doing on a daily basis that will drive new traffic to your site and then schedule them into your diary, and do not procrastinate!
