November 2011 Holiday Events
The holiday decorations are already up at the stores and the city is preparing for the Thanksgiving and Christmas season. November marks the beginning of the Circle City's holiday events. This list includes holiday favorites and some new events that you might not know about. Make your holiday plans early!
If you'd like to get a head start on your holiday shopping, this is the event for you. The 62nd annual Christmas Gift and Hobby Show is a shopping adventure you won't want to miss. You'll have the opportunity to purchase holiday decorations and gifts for everyone on your list. This large event averages about 60,000 visitors a year. General admission is $10. Children 12 and under are free.

Visit the elegantly-decorated historic Lilly House at the Indianapolis Museum of Art. Decorated in the holiday splendor of the 1930's and 1940's, the house is sure to put you in the holiday mood. While at the Lilly House, stop into the IMA and enjoy some of the exhibits. Admission is free.

It's not the holiday season in Indianapolis until the circle is lit. The 49th annual Circle of Lights show is presented by the Contractors of Quality Connection and Electrical Workers of IBEW and takes place the Friday after Thanksgiving, November 25.
Each year the events draws over 100,000 people as the Indiana Soldiers and Sailors Monument comes alive with lights, large toy soldiers and sailors, and peppermint sticks. Live entertainment begins at 6 p.m. with the televised show running from 7 - 8 p.m. The lighting of the monument will be around 7:45 p.m.

For a different spin on the holidays, take your children to the Indiana State Museum and watch Santa and Mrs. Claus arrive by helicopter on the front lawn of the museum. The event kicks off with a performance by the Indianapolis Children's Choir. A Christmas tree, featuring ornaments from Indiana's 92 counties will be lit by the duo, who will remain in their house on the third level of the museum through Christmas.

Start the Christmas season out by solving a mystery at the Mystery Cafe. Their holiday show at the Milano Inn, features death of a southern belle, suspected sidewalk Santas and plenty of laughs. Audience participation and theme dressing is encouraged. Tickets range in price from $44.50 - $46.50 and include a four-course dinner and the show.
