And, while separating from your dog during flight is not always the easiest thing to do, there are some simple steps that you can take that will make the process much easier on both you and your best friend.

If you would like to take your dog along with you during your travel, there are some important steps that you will need to take before even arriving at the airport. Firstly, you will want to make sure that you book a direct flight. These flights may cost more money, but they will make the trip less stressful for your dog. By avoiding layovers and additional delays, you and your puppy will be reunited quicker and your puppy will feel less stressed out about being apart from you for so long.

It is also important that, during travel, you put your contact information on your dog's carrier. As we all know, mistakes can happen with airport luggage €" don't let your dog become one of these mistakes. Be sure to attach your name, your phone number, your address, and your destination's address to the carrier. This way, if mistakes should happen, you will reunite with your best friend shortly.

Before you travel you should also try to familiarize your dog with their crate. Taking a flight separate from their owner can be stressful for dogs, so add in a fear of being locked in a crate and you could be asking for disaster. Be sure to condition your dog to the crate beforehand, ensuring that they associate the crate with food and toys. Be sure to pack these toys along as well so that your dog has something to keep them occupied during flight. On top of toys, also be sure to put a drip container in your dog's crate so that they have something to drink should they get thirsty during flight.

When it comes to your dog's crate, you also want to ensure that it is as comfortable as possible for them. Line the crate with padding for your dog to lie on and be sure that the crate is big enough for your dog to be comfortable.

When it comes time for your trip, arrive at the airport early, allowing your dog to adapt to the commotion of the airport. When it is time for you and your friend to part, do not make extra commotion. If you are upset, your dog will sense it and will become upset as well.

After your flight, once you are reunited with your dog, be sure to give him or her extra love and attention, take them to use the washroom, and carry on with your day with your best friend by your side!

Travelling with your dog doesn't have to be a stressful situation. Follow the few simple steps above and have a great vacation with you and your pet!
