Is Salt Good for Cleaning in Swimming Pools?

104 24

    How It Works

    • Salt water pools are hooked up with a salt water generator that transforms the salted water into chlorine to sanitize the pool water. The generator turns the salt that is added to the water into chlorine and then breaks it down again into salt. As a result the salt never dissipates in the water and you will rarely have to add more salt unless you partially drain the pool for any reason.

    Tasteless

    • The pool water does not taste salty. The average amount of salt in the water measures 2,500 to 4,000 parts per million (ppm). The reading of ocean water is roughly 40,000 ppm. Salt water can be tasted somewhere around the 5,000 ppm level. Salt water filter system are good for cleaning pool water because they require less maintenance and chemicals over standard chlorine based systems.

    Maintenance

    • The generator will have a display gauge that alerts the pool owner when the salt level in the water drops below the recommended range. Pool owners can also adjust the amount of chlorine the salt water generator produces to meet the demands of warm temperature and heavy bather loads, conditions which usually require more chlorine to keep the water sanitized.
