Life in Hue - Accommodation With a Difference

103 32
It's often not the actual accommodation that is the most important memory in a trip away.
It's great accommodation with something else added that makes for special times.
So when your hotel is placed right next to a memorable landmark then the combination is a true winner.
This is what happens to visitors who book into hotels built along the river that runs through Hue.
Because this river is not just any river.
Looking out from your hotel room onto the moving stretch of water that is called 'a silver sword upright to the sky' makes your stray a lovely experience.
The river is a true tourist attraction in it's own right.
This beautiful moving landmark not only provides a wonderful view but also offers visitors many opportunities to explore.
The Huong River or Perfume River comes from the Truong Son Mountain.
There are two springs, not particularly creatively named as the left and right tributary that meet at the Bang Lang fork and create the Perfume River.
This river is 30km long from Bang Lang to the Thuan An estuary.
The river is slow flowing for most of the year until the tropical storm season when the river can become a tyrant flooding huge areas of the countryside and putting all that is close to it under water.
Even Hue suffers from floods anything up to 2m in height that puts most of the city under water.
Anybody for a boat ride up the main street? The river's path through the countryside runs through varied landscape passing mountain peaks, and verdant tropical vegetation.
As it passes through the area it picks up flowers creating its own fragrance.
Hence the name it so rightly has earned - Perfume River.
Dragon decorated boats transport visitors to a host of interesting places that are worth a visit.
The Nguyen Dynasty had Hue as its home.
And as with emperors all over the world felt they needed gorgeous tombs to preserve their legacy, of whatever order that might have been.
Take a trip up the river to explore some of the historical treasures.
The view from both sides of the boat show an interesting assortment of fort, suburbia, mixed with wonderful pagodas, towers and temples.
Mix in the gleam of sun off the water and it can be like a magical ride into the past of lives lived and cultures left behind.
When visiting Hue, find a hotel that is situated along the Perfume River.
It will make your stay a memorable one.
There is no shortage of good ones to chose from.
In fact accommodation in Hue is both affordable and in most cases of very good standard.
