How to Convert Cell Phones to Your Plan

104 28
    • 1). Determine what kind of cell phone you have. Most cell phones available on the market are made by a specific carrier; they may be from Verizon or AT&T or Sprint or T-Mobile. This will be marked clearly on the phone itself.

    • 2). Determine whether your cell phone is compatible with your current plan and service provider. If your phone was made by Verizon and has CDMA, you will not be able to convert it to a plan by most other carriers that use GSM technology.

    • 3). Call your service provider or the company that makes the cell phone, such as Motorola or Nokia, if you are unsure what kind of technology your cell phone uses.

    • 4). Take the cell phone that you plan to convert to the closest branch of your cellular service provider. Explain that you want to add this cell phone to your plan. A clerk at the store should be able to add another line for you on-site.

    • 5). Explain to the clerk if you are trying to convert a prepaid cell phone into a regular service cell phone. Most cellular carriers can do this conversion on-site as well, as long as the phone has been in prepaid use for at least six months.
