Tips For Treadmill Running

103 252
Cold weather is coming up on us pretty soon now.
Some people take refuge from the frigid weather on their treadmill.
I'll admit it - if it's a bitter, cold, windy day - you'll find me in my basement on my treadmill.
Shorts and a T-shirt is much better than layers and layers and still being cold! Even though treadmills may be the best way to go for some in bad weather, there are still some tips to treadmill running.
1.
Have something to watch or look at.
I've put in a 2+ hour run on a treadmill in the past.
It can make you crazy unless you have something to take your mind off it.
If you can position your treadmill by a window, that's great.
I also have mine in front of a TV.
I can occupy my mind with a good show or a ball game and it makes it a lot easier.
2.
Keep water with you.
Most treadmills come with a place where you can keep a water bottle.
It's important to do so - and drink often.
3.
Wear good shoes.
Some people think that since they're "just running on the treadmill" it doesn't matter.
Well, it does.
Actually, even more so.
Treadmills are a hard surface, so you definitely need the support of a good running shoe.
4.
Watch your running form.
Some people want to run on a treadmill differently than they run outside.
They may running bent over or holding onto the sidebars.
This can cause injury.
So make sure you are running as you normally would.
5.
Play around with inclines and speed.
Don't just run the same percentage of incline.
Change it up, do some "hill work".
It's great on a treadmill.
Also, treadmills are great for doing some interval training.
Pick up your speed and the treadmill makes you keep running at that pace.
Hills and intervals are great for mixing up your work-out.
Treadmills can help you keep in shape in the winter months.
Don't be afraid to admit you like staying warm and dry! Keep on running!
