10 Most Crucial Steps for Obtaining Your Immigration Visa

Getting an immigration visa can be a difficult task. There are numerous stories (more than you would imagine) of people being rejected for immigration visas for a multitude of reasons. Being prepared with all the proper documentation and having completed your paperwork is crucial in this process. Obtaining your immigration visa is no small matter, so it is important that you make sure to follow the steps completely to ensure your best chances of being approved.

Below are the 10 most important tips to help you obtain your immigration visa:

  1. Ask your host / sponsor in the USA to send all the required documents - and ensure that they are complete and legible. Make sure you have computer printouts in this regard, and these are clear, legible and easy to read thereby reducing the chance of error.

  2. Ensure that there is no discrepancy between the information sent by you and your sponsor. Any inconsistency would increase the chances of your immigration visa being refused. Thus, there must be clear and transparent communication between the two of you regarding all of the instructions and all of the forms.

  3. If your passport is about to expire within the next year or so then try to obtain a new passport preceding the purchase of receipt for a visa interview.

  4. While at the interview, give simple and clear answers to the staff conducting the interview. If there is any confusion, feel free to ask for a clarification, albeit in a polite and respectful manner.

  5. You might be asked to produce the return tickets, and other documents such as medical insurance, etc. You can tell them that those documents will be ready once the visa is approved.

  6. The visa form has to be filled in neatly and correctly. Take some time to think before you fill out the various details so that you do not make any mistakes. If you do make one, ask for a new form - do not cut, or overwrite on your visa form.

  7. Reread all the information you have entered in the visa form at least twice before submitting it - if you have someone with you nearby, ask him/her to crosscheck the entries for any errors.

  8. Another important point in your application is that the photo you provide must not be more than six months old. Moreover, it must be front facing and with a light background. This is very important, as you don't want to be held up later because the photo you provided was five years old, and it looks like a completely different person.

  9. Note that the date of expiration of your stay is the date that is stamped on the I-94 form slip and not the one that is stamped on your immigration visa. In most cases, these are one and the same, but sometimes they might differ. The I-94 form slip will be attached to your passport at the port of entry in the USA.

  10. When you finally get your immigration visa, you should first check it for any errors, such as spelling mistakes in your name, your date of birth, your address, and other crucial details.

  11. Keeping in mind the tips above can be of great help when moving toward the process of obtaining an immigration visa.
