What Is a Natural Rabbit Repellent?
- Used kitty litter has been successful to drive varmints away. Predators have a certain scent and prey animals can recognize it readily.
- Cactus and any other painful-to-touch plants work as a natural rabbit repellent. Make sure to plant thickly enough that the small rodents cannot squeeze between the plants.
- Dogs and cats are about as natural a way to chase rabbits off as anything bought in a store. Good breeds include redbone coonhounds, greyhounds, basset hounds, huskies, Maine coon cats and any other breed with a high prey drive.
- Buy predator scent for a few dollars at most hunting supply stores. Reapply the liquids or pellets as they wear off. These repellents should work pretty well in strong enough doses.
- By planting enough excess vegetables and other tasty plants (think dandelions) around the house gardens, rabbits are more likely to eat those than flora closer to people. One can also use excess harvests to bait live traps and capture wayward rabbits and then release them in a safe place.
