How to Make a Top Sheet
- 1). Wash and dry the selected top sheet material as directed. This will ensure the fabric is pre-shrunk before you begin sewing, and that it will properly fit the bed when completed.
- 2). Cut the material to the needed size for your bed. To create a full bed top sheet, the fabric must be cut to 82 by 100 inches. A queen bed sheet must be cut to 91 by 106 inches. A king-sized bed sheet must be cut to 109 by 106 inches.
- 3). Place the fabric on a flat surface with its right side, or decorative side, facing down. Ensure the shorter sides of the fabric (the width sides) are facing vertically on the left and right. Fold the top edge of the material 3 inches downward onto itself. Fold the bottom edge 1 inch upwards. Fold the left and right sides in 1/2 inch.
- 4). Press each fold on the material in place with a hot iron. Hold the material in place by pinning along the entire perimeter of the fabric, moving the pin through both the top and bottom layers of the fabric.
- 5). Sew along the pinned lines, either by hand or with a sewing machine. When you reach a corner, pivot the material 90 degrees and continue sewing in a straight line along the edge.
- 6). Remove the pins. Flip over the material to reveal your completed top sheet.
