How to Bleed the Clutch in a 1999 Ford
- 1). Lift the hood of the vehicle and locate the clutch fluid reservoir (it is located behind the engine, on the firewall) to make sure that it is full. If the reservoir is not full, fill it up with brake fluid and ensure that the cap is secured tightly. After you have checked the reservoir, raise the front of the vehicle with a jack and support it with two jack stands. Make sure that the vehicle is firmly held in place before proceeding.
- 2). Slide under the front of the car and locate the transmission housing. On the back of the housing, you will find a flange that runs directly to the clutch. Detach this flange with your hand by pushing it into the clutch and then turning it in a counterclockwise direction.
- 3). Locate the actuator rod (it is black, on the same end of the transmission housing and has a plastic end) and push it in the direction of the transmission housing. Wear a glove while touching the actuator rod. Instruct an assistant to press the clutch pedal and then push the actuator rod back into the transmission housing. Repeat this process 10 times.
- 4). Move out from underneath the vehicle and get in the cabin of the vehicle. Push the clutch pedal all the way in and then allow it to rise. Repeat this process 10 times.
