How to Increase Virtual Memory for a CPU
- 1). Log in to your computer with an administrator account.
- 2). Click the "Start" button in the lower-left corner of the screen and type "System." Click the utility named "System" when it displays.
- 3). Click the "Advanced system settings" link in the left pane of the "System" window to open the "System Properties" window.
- 4). Click "Settings" in the "Performance" section to open the "Performance Options" window, then click the "Advanced" tab.
- 5). Click "Change" in the "Virtual memory" section to open the "Virtual Memory" window.
- 6). Remove the check from the box by "Automatically manage paging file size for all drives," if necessary. This enables the customization options for virtual memory.
- 7). Select the drive for which you want to change the virtual memory settings. If you only have a "C" drive, there is only one option. Otherwise, select whichever drive is the fastest or has sufficient free disk space.
- 8). Click "Custom size" and type in the figures you want in the "Initial size (MB)" and the "Maximum size (MB)" text boxes. These are the amount of virtual memory your computer uses initially and the maximum it can allocate for virtual memory. Microsoft recommends typing the same figure in both boxes and using 1.5 times the RAM the system has.
- 9). Click "OK" in the "Virtual Memory" window, then "OK" in the "Performance Options" window, then "OK" in the System Properties" window.
- 10
Restart the computer for the changes to take effect.
