How to Find Stocks That Are Going to Split
- 1). Check stock split calendars. Many free financial websites, such as Yahoo! or MSN Money Central, publish calendars of upcoming stock splits that list the company name, ticker symbol, split date and ratio, such as a 2-for-1 split.
- 2). Follow financial news. Companies announce stock splits well in advance. If you regularly monitor financial news, you will see the announcements as they are released.
- 3). Review Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) filings and company websites. Companies must file stock split plans with the SEC and they also post the announcements in the investor relations section of their websites. While this is a cumbersome method to search for splits, it's the fastest way to find out if a particular company is planning one.
