How to Care for Queen of the Night Cactus
- 1). Fill a large, irrigated pot with a mixture of 1 part regular potting soil, 1 part coarse sand, 1 part crushed stones and 2 parts leaf mold. This will provide an ideal, more desert-like environment for the Queen of the Night cactus to thrive.
- 2). Set the Queen of the Night in an outdoor or indoor environment that is exposed to full light during most of the day. This will give the succulent the sunlight it requires.
- 3). Keep the Queen of the Night in an environment that is slightly humid and will retain a constant temperature between 60 and 85 degrees Fahrenheit.
- 4). Water the plant only when needed. Cacti have the ability to thrive during long periods of drought. When watering, check the soil. If it feels excessively dry, give the plant a healthy drink. Increase the watering once the bud forms to ensure that it blossoms.
- 5). Fertilize the cactus with a mixture of 1 part low-nitrogen fertilizer and 1 part water. Perform this fertilization once every two weeks during the summer only. Do not fertilize the Queen of the Night during the winter, as this is the plant's dormant period and will not require the extra nutrients.
