How to Transfer My WordPress Blog to a Database Backup
- 1). Open a Web browser and type the domain name for your blog in the navigation text box. After the page loads, click the "Admin" link and log into the WordPress dashboard.
- 2). Click the "Administration" panel link on the left side. Click "Plugins Panel," then click "Add New." In the search text box, type "WP-DB-Backup." In the search results, click "Download" to download the WordPress files to your blog.
- 3). Click "Activate" to activate the new backup plug-in. Click the "Tools" link in the "Administration" panel on the left. Click "Backup Panel." A dashboard window opens with a list of backup options.
- 4). Click "Select All" to choose all of the WordPress tables in the blog database. Select "Downloaded" in the "Backup Options" text box to download the backup. You can also choose "Email" or "Server" to save the backup to a server location.
- 5). Click "Backup" to perform the backup. It takes several minutes to create the file. If you chose "Email" for a backup option, the file is emailed to you. Otherwise, the backup file is available to download on the server after the "Success" message returns.
