    Open an eBay account

    • 1). Register with eBay as a seller if you don't already have an account. This will enable you to list your trumpet on this auction site. You will need a credit card and a Pay Pal account to pay for any minimal eBay fees necessary to list your trumpet.

    • 2). Photograph you trumpet and upload into eBay's selling site. It is much more conducive to successfully selling your trumpet if you indicate with photographs damage, rust stains, missing parts or additional pieces that are included to show the overall condition of the trumpet.

    • 3). Write a detailed description of your trumpet to add to the description section of eBay. Be very specific, as you have more than 21,000 trumpets on eBay that are competing for the interests of buyers.

Identifying the trumpet as closely as possible will help interested buyers locate your item. Include brand names and types, like Yamaha, Concert Band or French Besson trumpet, to suitably describe your trumpet.

If your trumpet is new or old, adding this in the auction title is helpful for buyers looking for specific conditions of trumpets.

    • 4). Answer any questions from buyers by responding to inquiries via eBay's message system. Being responsive to buyers' interests will only help in selling your trumpet. When you answer questions on eBay, you have the option of checking a box to place your answer directly on your main auction site so that all viewers can see both the question and answer.

    • 5). Package your instrument carefully once it sells and ship it to the winning bidder via the shipping methods outlined in your auction description. Paying for delivery confirmation and insurance are useful in case of a dispute.

    Sell via online communities

    • 1). Selling to individuals via an online community is another option. You can bypass the auction site and sell directly to someone you trust, perhaps someone listed in the online community or a mutual acquaintance.

    • 2). Log onto an online trumpet community to post your trumpet for sale. Online communities are helpful in disseminating news of on-sale trumpets. One such community is Trumpet Player's International Network (TPIN). Amateurs, students, professors, professionals, repair folks and retailers frequent the TPIN site or are members.

    • 3). Send an email to TPIN in order to post a message about your trumpet being on sale. You can even subscribe to TPIN by filling out an online form on its website.
