How to Remove Closet Doors to Create a Child's Space

    • 1). Locate the hinges for the doors on the closet. There are typically three on each door, one at the top, middle and bottom.

    • 2). Using the electric screwdriver, remove each hinge from the door jam, not the door itself, and them set aside. Removing them from the door jam will remove them completely from the entry way for the closet.

    • 3). Fill in the remaining holes on the door jam with the filling putty. Try and fill the holes as evenly as possible by using your fingers.

    • 4). Allow the putty to dry for about an hour, then sand the edges smooth. You may want/need to apply a light coat of paint over the holes to match the paint of the door jam.

    • 5). Determine how you would like to utilize the closet space. If it's large enough, you'll be able to place a table and chair set that will allow your child space to do arts and crafts. Or, you may want to use the space to place a dollhouse, play kitchen or other large toys. In addition, if the closet is deep, you can use the back wall for storage by installing shelves for toys or books to be stored.
