    Soda Bottle Greenhouse

    • 1). Wash the inside and outside of the two-liter bottle with warm soapy water and rinse it thoroughly. Make sure to peel the label off of the bottle completely. This will allow for more sunlight to pass through the bottle.

    • 2). Use the marker to draw a line six inches from the bottom of the bottle (in the center) and cut the bottle in half using a knife or razor blade. Note, this step should be done by an adult to prevent accidents from occurring.

    • 3). Pour a layer of clean sand, aquarium gravel or small rocks on the bottom of the bottle for water drainage.

    • 4). Place a layer of Spanish or sphagnum moss about one-inch thick on top of the sand or rocks to prevent the potting soil from mixing with the sand. Pour a layer of potting soil four inches deep on top of the moss and lightly press the soil down with your fingers without tightly compacting it.

    • 5). Pour in some plant seeds or add a small plant to the bottle and water it lightly. A water hose might be too powerful; a watering can may work better.

    • 6). Place the other half of the soda bottle on top of the soil-filled bottom and secure them together with the rubber bands. Find a spot where there is a lot of sunlight to place the mini-greenhouse.
