How to Plant Artificial Grass

Maintaining your lawn requires a lot of effort from seeding, fertilizing, irrigating and weeding to mowing and grooming. It is a real hard work and maybe tiring for some especially if you had other important things to take care of. If it is eating up a lot of your time and energy, maybe it's time that you should consider replacing it with artificial grass.

Artificial grass is a turf made from synthetic materials that you could set up to look like real grass. You can easily purchase this product at stores and have it installed for you by professionals. But if you are tight of budget, you just simply want to save some money, or a DIY enthusiast, here is a guide for artificial grass installation.

First, you have to know the area where you want to place the artificial turf. Measure its length and width in feet then multiply it to get a square footage area. I suggest that you allot additional little inches for scrap and trimmings.

You can now prepare the area. If there is an existing lawn, it is helpful to use a sod cutter to get rid of the real grass present. Entirely clean the area of rocks, leaves, and all the debris. You can opt to spray weed killer to prevent future growth of weeds on your artificial lawn. Subsequently, level the area or compact it so that your artificial lawn will be laid smoothly without any bumps. Using a sod roller is a great tool for this job.

Afterwards, lay a foundation for your artificial grass. It can be crushed stones or trampled granite then compressed it. Ensure to make it as even and smooth as possible. Then position the weed barrier. This is a rot proof material that eliminates weed growth. You need this in case that any weeds survived the weed killer they won't nurture on the artificial turf.

Next, roll the artificial lawn in the area you have planned to cover then cut it according to the dimensions you have measured. It is better to lay the artificial grass in a uniform direction. Stretch it tight so that there's no ripples and check that you leave no gaps in between the pieces of artificial grass. Once the artificial lawn is set in place, trim in areas that are desired like corners and obstacles. You can now fasten it using nails or anchors that come with it.

Plump up the grass using a rake to allow the infill to penetrate in between the grass. You can add a layer of white sand as infill. Brush it evenly throughout the whole artificial turf to smooth it out. Finally, sprinkle the new synthetic lawn with water for a finishing touch.

You just have to shower it with a garden hose once a week for it to stay clean. But you just need to do it regularly if you have pets or your children love to play on it. You can now sit and relax here and enjoy your new beautifully made lawn.
