Power Management

The Lenovo X200 supports the use of power management settings used to extend the life of the device’s battery and to conserve energy. You can configure these settings so that the device hibernates or at least turns off the display after a specified period of inactivity. This results in a blank, or black, screen. Pressing the “Fn” key or the power button wakes the machine and restores functionality. If the X200 fails to resume and the sleep mode indicator light remains green, then press and hold the power button until the device powers off. This may result in the loss of any unsaved data.

Screen Brightness

When the brightness level is too low, the screen may appear black. Adjusting the screen brightness may restore the quality of the images displayed on the screen. Press the “Fn” key and the “Home” key simultaneously to increase the brightness. If this fails to increase the brightness level, press the “Fn” key and the “End” key simultaneously. Although this combination typically reduces the screen brightness, occasionally it increases the brightness after the X200 wakes from Sleep mode.

Presentation Mode

If your Lenovo X200’s screen displays only black after disconnecting an external monitor or a projector, then you may need to return the device to traditional viewing mode. Press the “Fn” key and the “F7” key simultaneously for at least three seconds. This should return the display mode to the X200’s monitor.

Hardware Problems

If the X200 turns on but the screen remains black, it is possible that your device has experienced a hardware failure. When all other troubleshooting methods have failed to resolve the problem, contact a service technician for additional assistance. Depending on when you purchased your X200, the original warranty or an extended warranty plan may cover the costs associated with the repair or replacement.
