How to Find Whether a Person Is Wanted by the Police

    • 1). Contact your state Attorney General's Office or state courthouse and advise the clerk that you would like him to check the "FBI Criminal History Record Repository" and "State Record Repository" to see whether a warrant has been issued for the person's arrest. You will need to provide as much information on the individual as possible, such as name, Social Security number and date of birth. Most states will require you to pay a processing fee to perform the check.

    • 2). Consult an agency that has been authorized to access the state's record repository to do background checks. This is the method used by many employers who are required to perform background checks on individuals whom they are interested in hiring. Most of the agencies will charge a fee to check for warrants.

    • 3). Visit a website, such as CourtRecords.Com, GovWarrantRecords.Org, and Government-Gegistry.US, that will allow you to search for public records and find out whether a person has arrest warrants. These websites pull information from all of the state record repositories, instead of only one state, and provide you with the results. Most of these websites will let you know upfront whether the individual's name was found in the database. However, in order to view information associated with the name, you will have to pay a fee.
