How to Have Great Skin in Winter
- 1). Keep a humidifier in your home to help keep your skin from drying out. If you want great skin in the winter but also want to keep warm with artificial heating, than a humidifier is a must. Your skin, nails and hair will thank you at the end of the season.
- 2). Wear multiple layers of clothing during the winter months so that you can add and remove layers according to varying temperatures. While it is important to keep warm, sweating under heavy winter layers will leave your skin dry and itchy. Instead, remove layers when you get warm for great skin, even in winter.
- 3). Apply a sunscreen to exposed skin, even during the winter months. Just because there is a cloud cover doesn't mean that harmful UV rays seep through to damage your skin. Make sure your sunscreen contains a minimum SPF 15.
- 4). Take warm, but short, showers during the cold winter months. While long hot showers are tempting when it's chilly outside, they only strip your skin of oils your body needs to keep the skin moisturized and beautiful.
- 5). Use a lip balm before going outside, as changing temperatures and cold winds can quickly cause painful, chapped lips. Make sure that your lip balm is not flavored, as that promotes licking which can damage your lips as well. Additionally, balms which contain phenol and camphor may seem soothing at first, but long term use can cause more harm than good.
