How to Configure Sonicwall Firewalls
- 1). Navigate to "http://192.168.168.168" to bring up the Sonicwall firewall's menu screen. Type the Sonicwall's user name and password in the text boxes. Click "Login."
- 2). Click the "Wizards" button at the top-right end of the screen. Select the "Setup Wizard" radio button and choose "Next."
- 3). Type the existing password in the "Old Password" field and enter a new password in the "Password" text box. Click "Next," select your time zone from the drop-down menu and choose "Next" again.
- 4). Click the "Static IP" radio button if you have a network setup with a router. Choose "DHCP" instead if your computer is connected directly to a modem. Click "Next."
- 5). Follow the on-screen prompts to choose the IP address and subnet mask you want to assign to the Sonicwall firewall. Click "Next" and "Finish."
- 6). Click the "Firewall" button at the left side of the Sonicwall menu page if you want to allow or deny a specific service through the firewall. Navigate to the "General" tab. Click "Add" to add a new rule.
- 7). Choose the direction of the service from the first two drop-down menus. For example, choose "WAN" in the "From" box and "LAN" in the "To" box if you want to deny a service entry from the Internet to your local network.
- 8). Click either the "Allow" or "Deny" radio button. Click the "Service" drop-down menu and select the specific service to be allowed or denied, such as "FTP" or "SMTP."
- 9). Type the specific IP address to be allowed or denied in the "Address Range Begin With" text box. Type the ending IP address in the "Address Range End" box if there are multiple IP addresses to be allowed or denied, or instead retype the same address if there is only one IP address.
