How to Update OpenGEU to Intrepid
- 1). Back up your important data and files before installing a new operating system. To install the new operating system you will have to overwrite the old one, and even if you've installed your "/home" directory on a separate partition, it's still best to be safe with your data.
- 2). Download the ISO file for Intrepid, available from Ubuntu as an old release (see Resources.)
- 3). Burn the Intrepid ISO to a blank CD; the ISO file may open your default burning program automatically when double-clicked, but you can also select it manually from within your burning program.
- 4). Reboot your computer with the completed boot CD. The CD should boot up a Live version of Intrepid that you can test before committing to the installation. Once you're satisfied that you want to switch to Intrepid, you can continue the installation process.
- 5). Follow installation prompts, which can include your time zone, your keyboard layout, your computer's name and your new username and password.
- 6). Allow the computer to reboot once the installation is complete. It will prompt you to remove the CD from the drive before the reboot is complete. Once the computer boots, it should go straight to the Ubuntu operating system on your computer. Move your files back into the /home folder from your backup, if necessary.
