Is Sleeping Apart the Cure for a Bad Night"s Sleep?

103 30
It may seem counterintuitive - sleeping apart is good for romance and a relationship.
But I will explain below why this may not be the case.
Recent research from the Sleep Council showed that: • 1/2 of us are regularly woken about six times a night by our partners.
• 1 in 4 of us regularly retreats to a spare room for a refreshing night's sleep.
• It is predicted that by 2015 60% of custom-built houses will have dual master bedrooms.
• 1/4 (or 15 million) of us are snorers and may be depriving our partners of 2 hours sleep each night.
A recent poll by Third Pillar of Health found that 76% of the population do not feel as though they achieve enough sleep.
Of those 29% blamed their partner for not obtaining enough sleep.
It's not jut snoring - it's fidgeting and moving around.
Sleeping apart doesn't necessarily mean separate bedrooms - though this may be advisable where snoring is the problem.
Separate beds or mattresses mean that you are less likely to be disturbed by your partner if they move around during the night.
Did you also know that men and women have slightly different optimal sleeping temperatures? Women have a slightly higher optimal sleeping temperature.
So whether if men wake up without the duvet cover or for women their partner is a duvet hog you can consider using separate covers.
With all the latest technology, longer working hours and less rest time we are already sleeping considerably less than we did even a few years ago.
Add into this the above statistics and it is easy to understand why Britain was described as a "zombie nation" by an eminent member of the scientific community.
The other point here is that if we are disturbed during our sleep we are doing untold damage to the quality of our night time sleep.
Sure we may get a full 8 hours of sleep but if we are being awoken at the wrong point of our sleep cycle on each occasion we are not going to obtain the full benefits from our night time sleep.
Think about it.
If you're tired you will be in no mood for romance.
It's even less likely that you will be in the mood for romance if the cause of your tiredness is your partner.
Sleeping separately may just be the silver bullet.
Worth a thought no?
