How to Make Hollow Sugar Easter Eggs
- 1). Pour the super fine sugar and 3 tbsp. water into a medium-sized bowl.
- 2). Work the water into the sugar with your hands and add one to two drops of liquid food coloring.
- 3). Mix the food coloring into the sugar paste and add more until the desired hue is reached.
- 4). Press the sugar paste into both sides of the egg mold. Make sure to pack the sugar into the mold tightly and form a layer that is anywhere from 1/2 to 1/4 inch thick.
- 5). Smooth out the edges of the mold with a spoon. This will create a better fit when the two halves of the eggs are joined.
- 6). Allow both halves of the eggs to dry for at least 12 hours or overnight.
- 7). Place a piece of wax paper onto a flat surface and gently tap the molds to remove the egg halves.
- 8). Cover one edge of the egg halves with royal icing. Bring the two halves together and press them gently. The royal icing will hold the two halves together and should dry for 10 to 15 minutes before decorating the egg.
