Voices from nowhere! Has this happened to you?
Reader reports:
It has probably happened to you. You’re in your house or room alone when you hear someone whisper, say, or even call your name. When you investigate, you confirm that no one else is around?
What’s the story? Was it your imagination? An auditory hallucination? Or something spookier? Here are a few reader reports of disembodied voices. The one Ruhan heard came in a whisper and after he heard some other unexplained noises.
“It was the year 2013 and it was late night,” reports Ruhan. “I was watching internet videos because I couldn't sleep. I kept hearing the sound of walking on a tile floor or like the sound flip-flops make. I went to check what it was, but I saw nothing in the hallway. I went back to my room and tried to fall asleep, but again I heard the sound. I went back to my room, but when I stepped inside I heard someone whispering my name. I was shocked and looked, but no one was there.”
Melissa was in the type of place most of us would not want to be when she heard a mysterious voice – a cemetery.
“I wanted to share what happened to me yesterday,” Melissa reports. “I was at the Lakeview Cemetery in Cleveland, Ohio taking photographs of the gravestones and mausoleums. As I was photographing a tall statue, I heard a male voice casually say, ‘Behind you....’ It sounded soft but masculine, as if someone was only a foot away from me. I turned around thinking I must not be the only person there, but to my surprise...
I was.”
And Suzanne experienced a lot more than just a ghostly voice.
“This happened in Oviedo, Florida back in 2002,” reports Suzanne. “I was lying in bed one night, covered in blankets asleep when I was suddenly awakened by the most evil-sounding laugh – and something grabbed me by my shoulders and began pulling me out of bed. I could actually feel the sheets in my bed rubbing against my legs as I was being moved. I managed to gasp out, ‘Blood of Jesus cover me!’ And it stopped.”
