Removing the Caulking From Aluminum Siding
- 1). Cut the caulk on both sides of the bead using a utility knife. Pull the utility knife down the length of each side carefully to ensure that you don't scratch the siding or any framing around windows.
- 2). Grasp a loose piece of the caulk with your fingers and pull it straight toward you. Use a combination of pulling the caulk out with your fingers and the utility knife to remove as much as you can at a time. Continue using this method until you have removed the bulk of the caulk.
- 3). Scrape smaller particles of the caulk from the siding and any framing using a razor blade scraper. Hold the scraper in your dominant hand at a low angle to the surface you are scraping to avoid gouging or scratching. Slide the scraper over the areas with caulking residue to remove as much as you can.
- 4). Dampen a rag with mineral spirits and clean any remaining caulk residue from the aluminum siding and any framing that may have been affected.
